Commitment In Life Commitment to the Game

With the Olympic Games happening I thought it was good time to talk about Commitment.  What does commitment and the Olympics have to do with each other? Commitment is a character trait defined as devotion or dedication, to a cause, person, or relationship. How about a dedication to ones dream to become the best athlete?

The Commitment

Michael Phelps holds 28 gold medals and currently as I write one silver in his career as a swimmer. Holding the record for the most gold medals. To look23649213403_2b10d52795_h at his record is simply stunning. The amount of commitment it takes to get to the Olympics is more than most of us have in any one project to stand above the rest and receive a medal is absolutely amassing to me.

What is the Point?

We can go through life not really being committed to any one thing, it’s easier. Is it right not to be committed? No one will really notice a lack of commitment for the most part. Most of us say we just need a change when we get a new job. Also when it comes to a marriage we often say it just did not work out. If each of us applied the same kind of commitment and dedication Michael Phelps has for his swimming to each area of our lives, what would it look like. The change might just be so remarkable. Just what would change about our society? Who and what would be affected?

Behind the Commitment

I could have used just about any athlete in the Olympics as an example. They all have extraordinary commitment and dedication to their dream. All of the Athletes’ I am sure have a story about how it would have been easier to give up, to walk away from their dream of capturing the gold. Behind all that commitment and determination there is a support, a coach, a mother, a source of encouragement a voice of reason and sensibility. Who reminds us and encourages us to work thought the pain, and failures, and discouragements.

Thank you for the interesting article. I don’t think I have ever thought of commitment in those terms before.
