A Child Who Could Have Been Aborted
I was asked to write a post about how it was growing up knowing that I could have been aborted. Growing up as a child from a single mother wasn’t as normal in the 90’s as it is now. Now parents realize that raising a child with one parent is better than raising a child with both parents when one parent didn’t want the child or isn’t going to be a good parent, or even when both parents are good but realize that they are not good for each other.
My History
When my mom got pregnant with me my dad and his parents encouraged my mom to get an abortion. My mom wanted to give me up for adoption, my grandparents told her that if she was going to give me up for adoption then it would have to be to them. She decided to raise me herself. She had three options and she chose one that wasn’t widely accepted in the church community she was going to but she chose the one that worked for her. She had many reasons that abortion would have been the acceptable choice to most people and that would have been her choice, a choice that is being taken away from women and men in several states. Some of these choices will affect the rest of the lives of people in those communities in the coming months and who knows what will happen to the women who live in those states.
The Choice
The women who get abortions have many reasons behind their choice and who are we to judge their decisions? While I appreciate the fact that I was born I would never fault her if she had decided to go along with my dad’s plan or even my maternal grandparents. I had a friend who got pregnant from a long time relationship she was in. She grew up in the foster system and got adopted when she was 12 she said she never wanted to put a child through that, but she didn’t have the money resources or place to have a baby at the time, so she got an abortion. I have also had a friend who got raped decided to go through with the pregnancy, and I have been on the other end of the spectrum, I was raped, I didn’t know that I had been raped until I was told that I had a miscarriage; but I knew something was wrong with me, and I just kept praying that if what was wrong was that I was pregnant that I would have a miscarriage. I would have gone to get an abortion without any hesitation.
Christ Mandate
We worry about abortion as if there are no other things we as Christians need to worry about. Christ calls us to feed the poor, clothe the needy, be a mother/father to the motherless/fatherless. As for standing up for the weak and those unable to stand up for themselves we need to try standing up for the babies already born who have abusive parents, the babies who have loving parents who don’t get paid enough to keep food on the table, the babies who have horrible living conditions so that their parents can keep food on the table but can’t afford nice living conditions, the babies in the prison camps at the border who have done nothing wrong and yet keep getting sick, raped, and the 6 who have died while in U.S custody. Fight for the babies who have much needed programs getting cut like WIC, food stamps and childcare. Fight for the babies in foster care who have never had a loving home. Fight for the homeless who are getting less and less support from our government who swears they care about the homeless. Fight for better wages so that these things shouldn’t be a problem. Fight for better healthcare, more pregnant women die giving birth in the U.S. than in any other first world country. There are as of 2017 – 442,995 children in foster care, how many of those are going to age out have kids of their own who are going to end up in the system because of these bills that are being passed. Do you plan on adopting, telling others to adopt, advocating for the gay and trans parents who want to adopt?
